Gold Coast Getting There & Getting Around

Holidaymakers arriving by air on international flights are most likely to arrive at the international terminal in Brisbane to the north.  Travellers on domestic flights have a choice of either Brisbane or Coolangatta airport at the southern end of the Gold Coast.

The major airline carriers for domestic flights are Qantas and Virgin Australia and more recently, Jetstar have entered the domestic market. It is a 1 hour flight from Sydney to the Gold Coast and approximately 2 hours from Melbourne.

Check with your accommodation provider regarding the best airport transfer service for you. The Brisbane airport is connected to the central Gold Coast by an Airtrain service with a travel time of approximately 1h 15m. There are several motor coach companies as well as limousine operators who can provide door-to-door transfers.

Self drive options in a Gold Coast car rental provide an opportunity to get to and from the airport as well as explore all the Gold Coast holiday highlights during your stay. It is a 1 hour drive from the Brisbane airport to the northern end of the Gold Coast.

All vehicles models are available ranging from limos to budget and off-road to open-top fun sportsters. The road networks are simple and driving is a breeze! Ask your accommodation provider about vehicle rentals and pick-up options.

If you are planning on a self drive holiday starting from Brisbane, then a Australian camper or motorhome hire may be the ideal solution. Campers are available in both 2WD and 4WD models with configurations ranging from 2 to 6 persons. Backpacker campers are popular on the Gold Coast.

Surfside Buslines provide an excellent 24 hour public bus service with regular services linking all the major Gold Coast locations. Pick up and set-down locations are adjacent all the major centres.

Don't forget the two-wheeler options. Scooters, motorbikes, bicycles and mopeds are available for hire. Hire a set of roller-blades and explore the many kilometres of bikeways and walkways in the region. Fancy a trip to Brisbane for a day out? A regular high speed train service operates from Robina and Helensvale stations to Brisbane central with a travel time of 1hr 15min.
